WASHINGTON — In an unprecedented move today, 669 organizations submitted a letter of endorsement for Secretary of Agriculture Nominee Sonny Perdue to:

  • U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS), Chairman, Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee,
  • U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Ranking Member, Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee,
  • U.S. Representative Mike Conaway (R-TX), Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, and
  • U.S. Representative Collin Peterson (D-MN), Ranking Member, House Committee on Agriculture.

The letter was written “on behalf of the farmers, ranchers, hunters, forest owners, cooperatives, businesses, trade associations, and all other segments of the agriculture, food and nutrition, landscape, and conservation community” and urged Senators Roberts and Stabenow for an prompt hearing to move Sonny Perdue’s nomination to the full Senate for a vote for the good of the Department and all those represented in the letter.

Highlighting the Perdue’s personal and professional life in the one-page letter, the signatories agreed that he is “imminently qualified” to lead the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

After learning of the letter, Governor Perdue said, “I’m honored that so many organizations came together to support my nomination. The USDA impacts every corner of America and if approved by the U.S. Senate, I will do my best to serve the way I have lived my life, run my businesses, and governed as an elected official … with integrity.”
