MANCHESTER, Iowa — Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day was held at the Delaware County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, October 5th with over 250 students, teachers, adult volunteers and presenters in attendance. All 7th grade students from the Edgewood-Colesburg, Maquoketa Valley, and West Delaware School Districts attended. Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Delaware County along with many area sponsors partnered together to provide the educational safety lessons.

At this year’s Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day, students rotated through 7 safety stations. PTO and Grain Safety was instructed by Lon Warnecke with River Valley Coop. Lawn and Yard Equipment Safety was instructed by JJ Davis from the City of Manchester. Maquoketa Valley Rural Electrical Coop presented on electrical safety. Jon Stickney with the Iowa State Patrol taught the students about bus safety. The Delaware County Firefighters Association led the fire safety station. Chemical look alike was instructed by Dani Boone, pharmacist at Brehme Drug. And UIHC AirCare Air Ambulance visited with the Farm Safety attendees and discussed air care’s role in emergency services and first responders.

The event is made possible each year through the generous support of our county’s commodity groups and many local businesses and partners. The Progressive Agriculture Farm Safety Day program is the largest rural safety and health education program for children in North America. ISU Extension and Outreach Delaware County partners annually with local FFA chapters, businesses, and community groups to host the program throughout the county in an effort to provide education, training, and resources to make farm life safer and healthier for children and their communities. We appreciate the continued support of Farm Safety programming in Delaware County.
