INDIANAPOLIS — David Lowe, a farmer from Jay County and Indiana Soybean Alliance Board Member, released the following statement in response to the June 14 announcement by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture of the approval of imports for Monsanto’s Vistive Gold, high oleic soybean trait. A certificate from the Chinese government that will complete the regulatory process could take a couple weeks.
“China’s announcement to approve the Vistive Gold high oleic trait is a win for Indiana farmers and a big step forward in expanding the global market for Indiana soybeans. We are encouraged by the fast progress that the Chinese government has made and makes it evident they recognize the potential of this variety. The soybean checkoff has worked with the entire soy value chain for over a decade to help grow the market for high oleic soybeans, which yield a bean with a differentiated nutritional profile. This approval announcement means growing high oleic varieties in Indiana will become more desirable to help meet the needs of this growing market.”
