WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County is hosting a free zoom webinar, Intro into Value-Added Dairy Processing, on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 7:00pm-9:00pm. Veterans and Military families are welcome and encouraged to attend!
In recent years, dairies have seen decreased market prices. One option for farms to differentiate is small scale processing with direct to consumer sales. Within the North Country, local farms and producers have shown an increase interest in bridging the gap from farm to consumer; this can be done through on-farm, small scale processing. Options for value-added dairy processing might include farm branded bottled milk, cheese, butter, yogurt and ice cream. This online class, through zoom, will include topics such as local and USDA food safety requirements, marketing, basic processing procedures and start-up resources. Mike Nuckols, Local Foods & Horticulture Program Manager and Gabby Wormuth, Dairy & Livestock Specialist, will present the topics.
