In 4-H we believe in the power of young people. We see that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us. Its programs are grounded in the belief that kids learn best by doing. Youth complete hands-on projects in areas like science, health, agriculture and civic engagement, in a positive environment where they receive guidance from adult mentors and are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles. They can concentrate on one focus area or they can try a variety of programs throughout their 4-H experience. Regardless of the project area, all 4-H programs include mentoring and career readiness as core elements.
4-H can be found throughout Elkhart County including urban neighborhoods and rural communities. 4-H is open to all youth in grades 3-12. Mini 4-H is offered to youth in grades K-2. 4-H is for everyone without regard to race, religion, color, sex, national origin, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, or disability.
All youth in grades K-12 who participate in 4-H are required to complete the Elkhart County 4-H enrollment form on an annual basis. There is a $15 non-refundable State Program Fee for all youth in grades 3-12 who join 4-H, with a maximum fee of $45 per family. The fee can be paid online with a credit or debit card, or by cash, check, or money order at the Purdue Extension Elkhart County office. There is no fee for youth in grades K-2 who enroll in Mini 4-H
