Industrial hemp preharvest sampling process

Use the Industrial Hemp Preharvest Sampling Technical Bulletin to successfully complete the hemp preharvest sampling process

PUBLISHED ON August 22, 2021

This is the first growing season under the State's Hemp Production Plan and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) final rule regarding hemp production, so growers who participated in the Ag Pilot Program of 2019 and 2020 will see significant changes. (Lesley L., Flickr/Creative Commons)

LANSING — Industrial hemp growers are beginning to contact the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (MDARD) Pesticide and Plant Pest Management Division for information about how to schedule sampling of their hemp crops prior to harvesting. This is the first growing season under the State’s Hemp Production Plan and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) final rule regarding hemp production, so growers who participated in the Ag Pilot Program of 2019 and 2020 will see significant changes.

MDARD wants to provide you information about the sampling request process, and the sampling process itself, so that you are familiar and ready once your hemp crop is ready to be sampled. Please use the Industrial Hemp Preharvest Sampling Technical Bulletin to successfully complete the hemp preharvest sampling process. The bulletin is also available online at www.michigan.gov/industrialhemp.
