MORRISTOWN, Ind. — Come to Dugger Family Farm in Morristown, Ind., for a free afternoon of learning about how to build your farm food safety plan.
Hosted by Indiana Farmers Union, this event, which takes place on April 15 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Morristown will walk guests through the basics of the Food Safety Modernization Act and how it may affect them as produce growers. Participants also will learn the basics to start writing their farm food safety plan to safely grow their farm operations.
At the event, guests can sign up if they are interested in receiving free one-on-one consultation to further develop their farm food safety plans after the workshop concludes. Indiana Farmers Union representatives will be working with farmers throughout the year to help them better understand FSMA regulations and how these regulations will affect their farming operations—large or small.
The workshop and the one-on-one consultation services will be offered to Hoosier farmers free, thanks to grant funds made available through the Local Food Safety Collaborative program, a collaboration between National Farmers Union Foundation and the Food and Drug Administration to provide training, education and outreach to local producers and processors to enhance the fundamental knowledge of food safety.
