CHARLOTTE, Mich. — The Eaton Conservation District, in partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP), Single Tree Farms and Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) invites you to “Growing Green: Improving Forages and Maximizing Results,” a field day dedicated to growing your green. Now more than ever, it’s becoming obvious how important getting the most bang for your buck is. To have a profitable operation, it’s crucial to consider all the factors that go into it: the importance of soil heath, prescribed grazing, fencing requirements, and watering considerations to name a few. This field day is geared towards providing producers with the tools and information needed to recognize such factors and grow green: both in their wallets and in their fields.
Agricultural professionals (NRCS, MSUE, MSU) will be on hand to walk you through what it takes to improve your operation, and demonstrate how livestock owners and row crop producers can mutually benefit from a partnership. Hear firsthand from experienced farmers the pros, cons, challenges and triumphs of implementing specific techniques on their own farms. You’ll be able to see it firsthand when you go along the walking tour at Single Tree Farms and participate in the on-farm field demonstrations. From soil health and forage production, to grazing leases for cover crops, to liability and budgets, this field day is sure to have a little something for everyone.
This event will be held Thursday, September 20th from 2-7pm at Single Tree Farms in Olivet, MI. This is a free event with dinner being provided, and locally raised beef is on the menu. For any questions or to reserve your spot, call the Eaton Conservation District at (517) 543-1512 x5 or e-mail Tim Redder at tim.redder@mi.usda.gov. This is a MAEAP Phase I event and 5 Commercial/Private Core RUP credits will also be available. The field day is made possible in part by a Conservation Education grant funded by NRCS and Michigan Farm Bureau. Other sponsors of the event include Eaton County Farm Bureau, Farm Bureau Insurance, Michigan Cattlemen’s Association, Michigan Angus Association and Single Tree Farms.
