CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County is offering Good to Great: Improving Agriculture Labor Management, a series of four workshops for farmers and farm managers who want to improve their skills in managing farm employees. The programs will be held from November through March at the CCE Ontario County Office, 480 North Main Street Canandaigua, NY 14424. The series is geared towards vegetable and fruit farms, but all farms are welcome to attend. Farm managers from small and large farms will benefit from improved management skills taught in these classes.
The first workshop, Marketing Your Farm as a Great Place to Work, kicks off the series November 7 from 5-8pm. This workshop will help farm managers create a work environment that attracts and retains quality employees as well as create an employee manual. Workshop 2, December 5, 5-8pm, What is My Job?, will cover hiring, training and evaluating employees effectively. Workshop 3,February 6 5-8pm, Keeping Good Staff When Money is Tight, will cover compensation and retention strategies for ag employers. A session on managing conflict in the workplace will also be held at this program. And finally, Workshop 4, March 6 from 4-8pm, Are You Managing Your Risks as an Employer?, will cover labor laws, worker safety and other risk management topics for agricultural employers. Employees from the New York State Department of Labor will be present at this workshop.
Each workshop is $25, or all four workshops for only $60. Scholarships for veterans are available to cover the cost of attendance.
