BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Illinois Wheat Association will host the Southern Illinois Winter Wheat Tour on Tuesday, May 25, giving Illinois wheat growers an opportunity to tour winter wheat fields and estimate yields for the 2020/21 winter wheat crop.
The tour will include field checks during the day with a late afternoon reporting session at Belleville Research Center in Belleville. Yield estimates will be reported, and tour participants will have an opportunity to view wheat variety and seed treatment trials at the Center.
Tour participants can register to join one of the following groups, which will meet up at 9 a.m. on May 25 at the following locations:
Those interested in taking part in the tour should contact the location they wish to join to make a reservation. The starting points and group leaders are:
- Siemer Milling in Teutopolis (Dave Devore, 217-857-3131).
- Mennel Milling in Mount Olive (Jim Luketich, 217-999-2161).
- AgriMAXX Wheat Co in Mascoutah (Matt Wehmeyer, 855-629-9432).
- BASF – Wabash Valley Service Co., McLeansboro (Aaron Hunsinger, 618-384-0243).
Participants are asked to call in advance to confirm the specific location from which their group will depart on the morning of May 25.
Those wishing to take samples on their own and join the groups at the Belleville Research Center at 4 p.m., please contact the Illinois Wheat Association for yield measurement instructions to ensure sampling procedures are consistent.
