SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Since the Pork Power program began in 2008, Illinois pig farmers with support of the Illinois Corn Marketing Board and the Illinois Soybean Association have provided Illinois communities with over 922,000 pounds of donated pork, which is the equivalent of more than 3 million servings.
The Illinois Pork Producers Association’s goal this year is to surpass 1 million donated pounds by the end of 2022.
To kick off this year’s campaign, IPPA is launching the 2022 Pork Power themed t-shirt “Team Pork” along with messaging on the back highlighting the proper cooking temperature for pork is 145 degrees. Each year, IPPA designs a shirt to be sold throughout the calendar year and specifically during the Illinois State Fair. The proceeds go directly toward the Pork Power program.
“As members of our communities and those who raise food, we use this program as a method to give to those less fortunate,” said Alan Kollmann, IPPA president. “IPPA gives us a platform to donate food to local families.”
A donation of $20 will earn a 2022 t-shirt. This includes shipping. Only adult sizes are available at this time. The $20 t-shirt purchase converts to 5 pounds of ground pork, equaling 20 servings of quality protein. To learn more visit www.ilpork.com.
