JEFFERSON CITY — From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to bed, agriculture is part of your life. The clothes you wear. The household products (like soap, toothpaste and batteries) you use. The school supplies (like jeans, crayons and notebooks) you buy. The food you eat. All of these things are available to you because of the hard work of farmers and ranchers who grow crops and raise livestock.
The greatest thing the American farmer can provide for your family is choice. There are many, many “right” choices available to you in the grocery store. If you choose to feed your family non-GMO, organic food because that’s what’s right for you, that’s ok! If you choose to feed your family conventionally grown food cultivated by hard working, technology-forward farmers, that’s ok too! In many cases, the only difference is the technology those farmers are leveraging to keep our food system sustainable and affordable.
The truth is, all kinds of farmers and ranchers are needed to meet the demands of all kinds of consumers. Please enjoy this issue of Missouri Grown magazine and be confident in Missouri farmers and in the food you choose to buy.
