MORRIS, Minn. — Explore all that the Horticulture Display Garden has to offer during the 48th annual Horticulture Night at the University of Minnesota West Central Research and Outreach Center, Morris. Experience beautiful flower gardens, meandering paths, and creative landscape ideas while taking in a variety of educational presentations and horticultural demonstrations.
Horticulture Night is scheduled for Thursday, July 26 from 5-9 pm.
Presentations and demonstrations include:
- What’s New in Ornamental Grasses with Mary Meyer, U of MN Department of Horticultural Science, and author of “Ornamental Grasses for Cold Climates”
- Vegetable Container Gardening with Don Kinzler, Garden columnist with Forum News Service, Fargo, ND
- Creative Succulent Gardens with Kelly Kyllonen, owner of Kelly’s Cottage Garden, Park Rapids, MN
- Healthy Plants in a Changing Climate with Michelle Grabowski, U of MN Extension Educator
- Edible Landscaping with Emily Tepe, U of MN Department of Horticultural Science, and author of “The Edible Landscape”
- Creating a Low Maintenance Yard with Eric Bergeson of Bergeson Nursery, Fertile, MN, and author of “Successful Gardening on the Northern Prairie”
- Fall Lawn Care with Stephanie Rutten-Ramos, Master Gardener
- Wonderful World of Hydrangeas with Roger Walvatne, Master Gardener and manager of Lake Country Gardens.
- Annual Flower Tour with Alisha Asleson of BFG Supply Co.
- Organic Weed Control demonstration for fruits and vegetables that includes grit weeding and biodegradable mulch.
All presentations will be held twice during the event.
In addition to horticulture tours and demonstrations, several other activities will be available from 5 – 8 pm, including a cow milking demonstration, hayride farm tours, vendor and educational booths, food booths, and live music.
The WCROC Horticulture Display Garden expands nearly three acres and includes plantings from several plant breeding companies from around the world. All flowers are labeled, allowing visitors to take note of top performing cultivars under regional conditions. Plant materials include annual flowers, perennials, trees, shrubs, vegetables, natives, aquatic, and tropicals.
