CLARION, Iowa — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will present a horse pasture walk program at the Linda Jurgemeyer family property Aug. 20 in Hanlontown.
The program is for horse owners who are interested in improving their pastures and horse health, through better pasture management, evaluating available acres, forage identification and supply.
“Horse owners will learn about various horse pasture management tools such as evaluating acres available, forage identification, forage supply and grazing management techniques to use on their own farm,” said Sarah Zwiefel, outreach and marketing coordinator for ISU Extension and Outreach in Wright County.
Presenters will include Angie Rieck-Hinz, field agronomist with ISU Extension and Outreach, and Sarah Zwiefel.
“The event will also benefit horse owners who want to improve the health and life quality of their horses,” Zwiefel said. “That’s the overall goal, to improve the care our animals get, so they live a happy and healthy life.”
The pasture walk will be held from 6-7:30 p.m., at 492 365th St., Hanlontown. Participants should wear appropriate footwear and bug spray.
The event is free of charge. RSVP by Aug. 19 to the ISU Extension and Outreach office in Wright County at 515-532-3453, or in Hancock County, at 641-923-2856.
If coming from Interstate 35, take the Highway 9 exit, go west through Hanlontown. Where Highway 9 curves to the south, continue straight on 360th St. one-half mile, then follow the pavement north one-half mile.
The farm is located on the north side of the road where it curves back to the west as County Road A45.
