FORBES ROAD, Pa. — Pennsylvania hops growers, professional brewers, and home craft brewers are invited to come together at GEMS Farm in Cumberland County to learn about growing hops and brewing with the finest PA grown.
GEMS Farm proprietor Michael Reifsnyder will lead a tour of the 3.25 acre hopyard on this family farm in the beautiful Cumberland Valley of southcentral PA, where Triple Pearl, Amarillo, Cascade, Comet, Tahoma, Newport, and Mt. Hood hops have been grown since 2017. Tour participants will learn about the requirements for successfully growing this specialty crop, and hear lessons learned on cultivation, pest control, and marketing from this career Navy veteran-turned farmer.
Following the tour, Â Zymologist and Head Brewer at Lindgren Craft Brewery Jason Simmons will offer an educational brief on the science of brewing with hops, and the benefits of brewing with PA grown. Michael Lindgren will join Jason for Q&A from the perspective of a small but rapidly growing craft brewery owner.
The event is sponsored by GEMS Farm and the PA Veteran Farming Project network. There is no cost to attend but you must pre-register at https://www.troopstotractors.
