JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — With nearly one in five Missourians receiving emergency food assistance each year, Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance recognizes the need to obtain and distribute food to hungry Missouri neighbors. Insurance agents across the state are accepting donations throughout the month of April at their local offices to be distributed to one of the over 1,500 Feeding Missouri agencies located in their communities. Last year donations weighed in at more than five tons. Monetary donations are encouraged and will be specifically reserved to serve children through local programs such as the Buddy Pack Program.
While most non-perishable donations are appreciated, there are some types of food items that allow local pantries to best meet the needs of the communities they serve. These items include: canned tuna and chicken, boxed or bagged pasta, canned soup and chili, boxed crackers, peanut butter, snack bars, fruit snacks and instant mashed potatoes.
At the end of April, each Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance office will take the donations to a local pantry to be weighed. A statewide grand total of donations in pounds and monetary donations will be announced at the Home Run Against Hunger finale food drive in the Ballpark Village parking lot just outside of Busch Stadium-the home of the St. Louis Cardinals on April 30, 2017.
Please drop off non-perishable food donations or checks made payable to one of the six major Feeding Missouri food banks during the month of April at any Farm Bureau Insurance office located in Missouri. To find office locations, visit mofbinsurance.com. There is at least one office in each county in the state.
