EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The April 10 annual Herd Health and Nutrition Conference, co-hosted by NEAFA and Cornell PRO-DAIRY, attracted over 200 participants from throughout the northeast for the daylong event.
The event featured a panel discussion of non-GMO feeding of dairy cows, moderated by Dr. Tom Overton. Larry Chase and Joe Lawrence of Cornell were joined on the panel by Crystina Brooks of Du Mond Ag LLC.
Other speakers included Dr. Heather Dann of the Miner Institute speaking on milk fatty acids as herd management tools and Dr. Rob Lynch of Cornell PRO-DAIRY addressing vaccination protocols and immune status of dairies. Dr. Mike Van Amburgh provided tips on management of forage fiber for the upcoming growing year. Todd Ward of Direct Dairy Nutrition Services, LLC offered insight into feeding management for robotic parlor farms. The event wrapped up with a panel discussion of strategies for dealing with low milk margins, moderated by Stacia True. Panel members Jim Tully of Pine Creek Nutrition Service, Greg Zuver from Caledonia Elevator and Kevin Jones with Ghost Hollow Consulting shared their views on managing margins with a perspective from outside the Northeast.
