LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. — Lebanon families to get hands-on lesson in healthy cooking and gardening Penn State Extension and the Lebanon YMCA will host a free Gardening in Your Neighborhood fourĀ class series using evidence-based nutrition education experiences developed by the American HeartĀ Association in collaboration with Aramark to improve community health through better nutrition. TheĀ Ā four class series will be held on the following Thursdays from 5-6 PM; June 29, July 13, July 27, andĀ August 10.
Classes will include harvesting recipe ingredients from the YMCA community garden, live cookingĀ demonstrations and tasty recipes participants can easily and affordably make at home. Pre-registrationĀ is required by June 26th and class space is limited. Poor diet is a leading risk factor for morbidity and mortality in the United States and contributes to oneĀ in five deaths globally. The 2023 Lebanon County Health Needs Assessment notes that over 40% ofĀ residents are interested in preparing healthy meals and in growing vegetables. This class series offers anĀ opportunity to learn together how to ābe well, eat well, and shop wellā through fun, hands-on groupĀ experiences. Participants will receive supplies and recipe ingredients each week, and those whoĀ complete all four classes will receive a gift certificate to a local Farmers Market.
