CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire health officials say mosquitoes collected in Pelham have tested positive for the virus that causes Eastern equine encephalitis.
The mosquitoes were the first to test positive for the virus this year in New Hampshire.
No human cases have been reported.
Now the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services is working with public health officials to notify the public in Pelham and surrounding communities.
Symptoms of Eastern equine encephalitis include fever, headache, weakness, and muscle and joint pains.
Since 2004 there have been 15 human cases of EEE identified in New Hampshire. The last human case was in 2014.
The state says EEE is one of three mosquito-transmitted diseases present in New Hampshire. The others are West Nile Virus and Jamestown Canyon virus.
