TAMWORTH VILLAGE, N.H. — On Saturday, September 22, Remick Country Doctor Museum & Farm in Tamworth Village marks the change of seasons with its 14th Annual Harvest Festival. Beginning at 11 a.m. and continuing until 3 p.m., this signature event celebrates New England agricultural life and rural practices, crafts, trades, traditions and pastimes that have been passed down through generations.
Visitors can access the centuries-old museum property, including its historic barns, buildings, and nearly 100 acres of fields, gardens and hiking trails. Historical and modern haying equipment will be on display, and agricultural demonstrations will take place across the grounds. Attendees are encouraged to try their hand at seasonal tasks such as apple cider pressing, corn grinding and birdhouse making, and using a two-man saw to cut tree “cookies.”
Harvest Festival is a family-friendly event where attendees have the opportunity to meet farm animals and participate in country pastimes such as a skillet toss contest (for ages 21 and up), and live music by the Brier Hill Band. Corn hole, lawn bowling, corn cob darts and ring-toss, as well as a scavenger hunt, a “fishing pool” and “turkey shoot” are among featured games. The museum’s Binsack Trail, offering sweeping views of the homestead, is open for foliage walks.
This year’s displays and demonstrations showcase woodcarving, timber framing, woodworking, chair caning, beekeeping, mushroom growing, plant-based cloth dyeing, flax processing and other fiber arts, and plant-based medicine. Some of the featured handcrafters will have products for sale.
Plan on spending the day and get a taste of the season through a sample of fresh-pressed apple cider. Remick-made foods will be for sale, including apple crisp, cookies, popcorn, and a lunch of Vegetarian or Remick Sausage Rice Bowls, both served with fresh-baked bread, a brownie and a bottle of water; the price for lunch is $5 per person.
The museum store will feature Remick-made and gift items, farm-grown produce and a variety of cuts of farm-raised meats.
Admission includes all activities and is $10 for ages 11 and up, $5 for ages 5-10, and free for ages 4 and under. Museum members receive $2 off the admission price. This is a rain or shine event. For additional information contact 603-323-7591, or visit the website: www.remickmuseum.org.
