BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County Nutrition, Gardening and Composting educators at the Binghamton Vet Center for a FREE bi-weekly, hands-on classes for Broome County veterans starting on February 2nd at 9am. As part of the weekly Morning Muster at the Binghamton Vet Center, CCE staff will offer workshops focused on eating healthy, gardening in your home, and composting in the winter months. As we enter the new year with a focus on being healthy and more self-reliant, CCE Broome is pleased to bring these FREE hands-on workshops to our Broome County veteran families. CCE Broome is proud to offer these workshops in partnership with the Broome County Division of Veterans Services.
The topics we will be presenting are below:
- February 2nd: Meal Planning to Manage Food Costs & Bokashi (Fermented) Composting
- February 16th: Making Food for One (or Two) & Planning for Vegetable Garden
- March 2nd: Vegetables for Vitality & Worm Composting
- March 16th: Herbs for all Seasons & Seed Starting
On February 2nd we will be learning how to manage our food costs through meal planning – very helpful with food at the grocery store going up 60% or more in the past year! As well as learning to make compost during these cold weather months by pickling our food waste in an airtight bucket. At each session we will offer hands-on opportunities and take home what you make or learn. For example, at our worm composting class veterans will be able to bring home their own worm bin to start worm composting at their home. At each cooking class attendees will be able to engage in the food preparation and enjoy eating what is prepared.
