ONEONTA, N.Y. — “Hand sanitizer and face covering distribution for farms and agribusiness went very well last week,” said David Cox, Ag Program Leader at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schoharie and Otsego Counties, “but there are many more farms still to come and we have quite a bit of sanitizer remaining. Short notice last week may have been a factor, but the big challenge, of course, is the seasonal timing – everyone’s in the fields! If farms are able to send a family member, friend, or neighbor, that certainly will help. We are hopeful that more folks can show up this week.”
Distribution locations are car-side in Cobleskill and Oneonta at the Sunshine Fairgrounds, South Gate Entrance, in Cobleskill, and Northern Eagle Beverages, 41 Browne St., in Oneonta, Wednesday, May 20, and Thursday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. “We have ample quantities, but are asking farms to pre-register, if possible, to ensure a smooth distribution.” Cox said. “If not, they can come anyway. We’ll take care of them.” Farms can register by visiting the association website,CCESchoharie-Otsego.org.
There is no cost to farms for these products. The registration asks for basic information about each farm, pick-up site preference, and estimated quantities requested, shared only with NYS Dept. Agriculture & Markets. Farmers from either county are welcome to select either Cobleskill or Oneonta for pick-up. For more information, email CCE in Cobleskill atschoharie@cornell.edu.
