GREENSBORO, N.C. — This year we will celebrate 75 years of Kids and Cows at the Greensboro District Junior Dairy Show! The show will be held July 20th and 21st from 10am-3pm at the Guilford County Extension Center in Greensboro (3309 Burlington Road). The participants showcase their project animals and all they have learned in their 4-H projects at this intensive 2-day competition. The kids and their parents spend months preparing the animals for show – starting with the enormous task of teaching their heifers to be lead with a halter and standing still positioned to show off their favorable dairy qualities.
This year we’ve added an exciting new project to our 75th dairy show. After completing an intensive 8-week project, 6 inner-city kids, from Erwin Montessori School will bring heifers they have training at the NCA&T State University Farm -Dairy Unit to our 4-H dairy show. Cooperative Extension agents and volunteers have worked 3 days a week for the last 8 weeks with the kids to help them learn all the skills they need to confidently show “their” animals in this year’s show. Staff at the A&T Dairy have helped teach the kids all about dairy husbandry and the dairy industry. This collaborative effort between our two land-grant universities, city schools and community volunteers represents over 500 hours of intensive effort towards improving the lives of families in our community.
Please come join us for this two-day show. Spend an hour or the whole day and watch the skills these kids have acquired.
