DUBUQUE, Iowa — With the popularity of craft breweries exploding around the state, there is one essential element that is involved: Hops! Growing hops is an emerging industry within the state of Iowa. Learn more about hops and brewing on Tuesday, February 11, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Textile Brewing Company, Dyersville IA.
The featured speaker is Keri Byrum from Cedar Falls Hops Company. The Cedar Falls Hops Company currently has 7 acres devoted to four different varieties of Iowa hops which they sell primarily in Iowa.
We will be talking about:
• The difference between wild and domesticated hops
• Understanding hop anatomy and growth
• How hops are grown and harvested to make delicious Iowa beers
• Structures for growing hops, and
• Care, maintenance and harvesting practices
Landowners looking at alternative crops, gardeners, and home brewers are all encouraged to attend.
The program is free of charge and is being co-sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Textile Brewing Company, and Cedar Falls Hops Company.
