TAYLORVILLE, Ill. — Join University of Illinois Extension as Andrew Holsinger, Horticulture Educator and Lisa Peterson, Nutrition and Wellness Educator team up to provide a workshop on culture, selection, care, pest management, and maintaining strawberry plants. Peterson will cover the nutritional benefits of strawberries, watch a food demonstration using strawberries, and participants will taste test recipes and water-bath can their own strawberry jam to take home.
Participants will receive a packet of information on disease and pest management information on caring for strawberries, information on safe preservation practices, and a recipe booklet. The course will also give individuals the chance to explore the benefits of culture, care, and get to put their knowledge to work by water bath canning fresh strawberries This is a hands-on workshop.
This program will be held at the Christian County Extension Office in Taylorville, IL on June 22nd from 9:00am to 1:00pm. This class is part of the Unit 18 Eat Local Initiative and all costs are covered by a grant funded by the Lumpkin Family Foundation.
