TAVARES, Fla. — The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County is hosting the following events and programs in August:
• Farm to Table Cooking
Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. – noon
Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares
The class focuses on using fresh, seasonal and local ingredients. Learn how to transform summer produce into a variety of healthy and savory dishes. Register online at https://fcslake.eventbrite.com for this $10 class.
• Grow and Brew
Aug. 18 from 10 a.m. – noon
Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares
UF/IFAS Specialists and Extension Agents discuss the science of brewing beer, wine, or cider; the research on growing backyard hops; how to grow grapes in Florida; as well as their health benefits. Participants will receive a Zeus hop and Southern Home muscadine grape plant to grow at home. $10 registration is required online at https://UFRootsUp.eventbrite.com.
• 4-H Kick-off Party
Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares
The 4-H Kick-off Party is open to the public and showcases the 4-H Lake County Clubs. The party is an interactive event with a scavenger hunt, crafts, face painting, and family-oriented activities with the theme “4-H Around the World.”
Those with food allergies should be aware that food items prepared or distributed as part of UF/IFAS Extension events may contain milk, egg, gluten, wheat, soybean, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish; and could be prepared in a facility that may be exposed to any of these ingredients.
