ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The workshop is aimed at training new growers to considering establishing a direct market channel for growing various greens on the farm such as a “pick-your-own” operation, on farm sales as well as other direct market channels such as the tail gate market. Craig Mauney, Area Specialized Agent, Commercial Fruit and Vegetable Production will lead the group in discussing growing various types of greens in the region.
Specific topics include cultivar selection, site establishment (soil conditions and planting), fertilization, irrigation, pruning, harvesting, and resources for pest control. Workshop includes a lecture followed by a hands on activity such as insect and disease scouting or pruning at the Farm Stand on the Ten Acre Garden
