URBANA, Ill. — Did you know you can have a luscious green lawn while being ‘green’? Grass in the form of lawns is the third largest crop in Illinois covering 63,000 square miles. Maintaining all that grass with high volume of fertilizers and pesticides can be harmful to the environment. With a few simple changes to your routine will produce the same results in a green ‘earth friendly’ manor.
University of Illinois Extension program will highlight sustainable practices for the home lawnscape. What we put on our land ends up in our water. Learn how to apply fertilizers to your lawn in the proper amount to avoid excess runoff that can lead to contaminating our water supply locally and downstream. Additional cultural practices will also be discussed to produce a green healthy lawn that will make your neighbors envious. Practices learned can also be applied to vegetable gardens and landscaping.
There is no charge for this program but registration is required. Call 618-526-4551 or https://web.extension.illinois.edu/registration/?RegistrationID=16196
