POLK CO., Fla. — Due to water quality concerns, Florida law requires that landscape professionals applying fertilizer commercially have a license called the Limited Commercial Fertilizer Applicator Certification. In addition to the state law, a Polk County ordinance requires fertilizer applicators to be certified in the Green Industries Best Management Practices (GIBMPs). The GIBMPs certification class provides instruction on how landscape professionals can protect water quality when working in the landscape. The training program is the primary requirement to obtain the Limited Commercial Fertilizer Applicator certification.
UF/IFAS Extension Polk County will offer training in the Green Industries Best Management Practices Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Brenneman Auditorium of the UF/IFAS Extension Polk County office located at 1702 Hwy. 17-98 South, Bartow, Florida, 33830. Extension programs are provided through cooperation between Polk County Board of County Commissioners and the University of Florida IFAS on a non-discriminatory basis.
After successful completion of the post-test, a certificate of completion, honored statewide, will be mailed and may be used to apply for the state license. This training may also be used to renew many Florida pesticide licenses for those working in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal grounds maintenance industries.
