PITTSTOWN, N.J. — Rutgers University, the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, and Rutgers Cooperative Extension proudly present the annual Great Tomato Tasting Event and Snyder Farm Open House.
This event is made possible with the assistance of the Rutgers NJAES Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteers.
You can take part in the very popular tasting of more than 80 heirloom and hybrid tomato varieties of beefsteak, plum, cherry, and grape tomatoes! While features change yearly, past events have included:
- chef demonstrations featuring preparation of several tomato recipes
- tastings of apples, basil, and peaches
- professional advice offered by the Hunterdon County Board of Health Staff on stink bugs, mosquitoes, and black flies—pesky insects near and dear to local residents
- gardening demonstrations for those interested in small, productive gardens
Learn about the research and projects being conducted at the farm by taking a wagon tour of the farm’s research plots.
The Melda C. Snyder Teaching Garden showcases demonstration gardens of deer tolerant ornamentals. Also on display are blueberries, hazelnuts, and hollies from the Rutgers breeding programs.
Rutgers NJAES faculty, staff, and Rutgers Master Gardener volunteers are available throughout the event to answer your gardening questions and to make your visit to our research farm a pleasurable and memorable one. For further questions, contact us at 908-730-9419.
