BURLINGTON, Vt. — The Center for Women & Enterprise Vermont (CWEVT) is pleased to announce that the organization has received a $20,000 grant from the Working Lands Enterprise Initiative. The grant was announced at a ceremony at The Intervale Center in Burlington on June 12th. Attendees included Governor Phil Scott, Lieutenant Governor David Zuckerman, and other state officials. CWEVT will use the grant money to help women-owned, specialty food entrepreneurs in the Northeast Kingdom and southern Vermont with business and financial planning education and support. The first 10-week business planning course for startup, land-based businesses will start in Hardwick in October.
The Working Lands Enterprise Initiative supports innovative Vermont entrepreneurs working in agricultural and forestry industries by providing technical and financial assistance. The program is made possible through the support of the state legislature, multiple state organizations, and public/private donors.
“We are grateful to the Working Lands Enterprise Initiative for choosing to invest in CWEVT,” said Gwen Pokalo, the Director for CWEVT. “Through this investment, CWEVT will be able to work more closely with the rich service provider network to get programming to the aspiring and established entrepreneurs who drive Vermont’s economy—women-owned food and agricultural businesses in Southern Vermont and the Northeast Kingdom.”
