DECATUR, Ill. — Macon County 4-H & Extension Foundation recently awarded $690 to the Macon County 4-H SCREAM club. The grant will go toward creating a pollinator pocket at the Macon County Extension Office. The club collaborated with a Macon County Master Gardener who mentored them through the planning of the pocket and germinating native seeds. Club members, ranging in age from 5-14, started building the raised bed last week. The club will maintain the garden throughout the summer.
“The Macon County 4-H & Extension Foundation is proud to support the hands-on learning of the SCREAM 4-H club with their design, building and maintenance of their pollinator pocket at the Extension Office. Helping youth explore agriculture and to give back provides positive impact in our community,” said Evan Hall, Macon County 4-H & Extension Foundation President.
SCREAM will finish their raised garden bed and plant it with pollinator loving plants on Thursday, May 24 at 4:30-7pm at the Macon County Extension Office located at 3351 N. President Howard Brown Blvd. in Decatur. The community is welcome to attend.
