OGDEN, Iowa — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach of Boone and Greene Counties and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation are teaming up to offer a local “Winning the Game” workshop to help farmers work though their 2018 pre-harvest marketing plan. The workshop will be held on Monday, March 5th, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Leonard Good Community Center in Ogden. A light breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m.
The workshop will be led by Steve Johnson, Extension Farm Management Specialist and Ed Kordick, Commodity Services Manager for the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. During this half-day session, farmers will examine the key elements of a solid marketing plan and learn how crop insurance, target prices and decision dates can work together to help secure a good average price for their crop. In this workshop, participants will write their own marketing plan then implement it in a realistic market-simulation game to see how they react to real-life market fluctuations.
There is no registration fee for this workshop, but pre-registration is requested by visiting http://tinyurl.com/wtg1718. Local sponsors for the program are Landus Cooperative, Vision Bank, and United Bank of Iowa. Contact Alex Merk, Boone County Extension and Outreach Program Coordinator at 515-432-3882 or alexmerk@iastate.edu with questions.
