CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The following is a request for proposals (RFP) for funding graduate student assistantships focused on animal agriculture beginning in July 2019. Please submit proposals to the Executive Associate Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences, James Pritchett, via electronic submission at james.pritchett@colostate.edu . The due date for proposals is the close of business on April 15th, 2019.
Overview: The Y Cross Ranch was a working cattle operation owned and operated by C. C. Davis and Company, LLC located on the eastern edge of Laramie Range along Horse Creek which is north and west of Cheyenne, Wyoming. In 1997, C.C. Davis and Company donated the Y Cross Ranch to the Colorado State University Research Foundation (CSURF) and University of Wyoming Foundation in equal shares. The two foundations jointly owned and operated the ranch with a dedicated purpose of addressing animal agriculture questions, as well as providing educational opportunities, for western cattle-ranching operations. The ranch was sold in 2015 with each Foundation receiving an equal share of the proceeds. CSURF created the Y Cross Endowment with proceeds from the sale and specified that the endowment’s recurring funds be used to create and/or enhance educational initiatives and activities focused on animal agriculture.
Based on original donor intent, proceeds from the sale are directed at educational initiatives in animal agriculture including supporting student scholarships and internships for studying animal agriculture as it relates to natural resources, animal sciences and veterinary medicine.
Pursuant to this purpose, proceeds from the Y Cross Endowment will be used to fund a limited number of graduate assistantships proposed by CSU faculty. Assistantship proposals will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- The degree to which the proposal’s aims and purposes are directed toward and support educational initiatives as it relates to animal agriculture in the West;
- The demonstrated impact the proposed assistantship will have for animal agriculture resident instruction programs in the host department/college;
- The assistantship’s significance in developing future educators and leaders for animal agriculture.
Please submit the proposal to James Pritchett at james.pritchett@colostate.edu . Proposals should be no more than 5 single spaced pages in length containing the following information:
- Cover page with title, short abstract of proposal, home department and college affiliation, contact information for
the assistantship adviser; - Proposal text including the assistantship overview, the program of study for the recipient, contribution to the department’s resident instruction program and/or the educational initiatives in animal agriculture and clear statement of impact and significance for the same. A timeline may be included as appropriate. The text should discuss how satisfactory effort and progress to degree completion will be assessed for the student(s) receiving the assistantship.
- Budget and budget justification.
Note: The Y Cross scholarship committee will convene to award the assistantships. In addition to the criteria listed above, the committee will demonstrate a preference toward proposals that contain matching funds. Funding is limited to 2 years for PhD assistantships and 1 year for MS assistantships.
The due date for proposals is close of business on April 15th, 2019 . Questions may be directed to Dr. Pritchett.
