LINCOLN — Governor Pete Ricketts and Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) Director Steve Wellman welcomed Gregg Doud, Chief Agricultural Negotiator for the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, to Nebraska on Thursday and Friday.
During his visit, Ambassador Doud:
• met with dry edible bean producers and Congressman Adrian Smith in Scottsbluff;
• met with sugar beet growers near Bridgeport;
• toured fields to learn more about dry edible bean and sugar beet harvests;
• toured New Alliance Bean and Grain company with the Governor and Congressman Smith and Director Wellman;
• hosted a round table meeting at the Nebraska State Fair with NDA Assistant Director Breinig and Nebraska agricultural commodity groups to discuss trade opportunities;
• helped crown the Supreme Champion Female and Supreme Champion Bull at the open class beef show at the Nebraska State Fair.
“We were pleased to welcome Ambassador Doud to Nebraska and enjoyed meeting with so many of our agricultural producers,” said Wellman. “I’d like to thank the Nebraska Dry Bean Commission for their hospitality and for hosting the group during the Scottsbluff and Alliance portion of our visit and the staff at the Nebraska State Fair for their assistance during our stop in Grand Island.”
