INDIANAPOLIS — More than 2,100 pounds of holiday ham, 700 hams total, will be donated by Indiana’s pork producers through Indiana Pork to Gleaners Food Bank of Indianapolis on Monday — just in time for Senior Shopping Day at the food bank.
Healthy proteins like pork are greatly needed by hunger relief organizations. Most Hoosiers supported by Gleaners (90 percent of households) reported that they will purchase the cheapest foods available even if there are healthier options.
Gleaners Food Bank provides food assistance to more than 260,000 people in central and southeast Indiana. Pork producers are helping by giving pork products to Gleaners and other hunger relief programs. Recently, pork producers donated 800 meals to people in need through Indy Fuel Hockey’s food program.
