CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.- With interest in local foods at an all-time high, customers want to be able to purchase locally produced foods wherever they shop and dine. Many food establishments and farmers are interested in meeting this customer demand, however making the logistics of selling and buying local food between these groups can be challenging.
To bridge the gap between local food buyers and sellers, Cornell Cooperative Extension Ontario County is offering Market Connections: Selling and Buying Local Food for farmers and organizations interested in connecting. The event will feature a panel of expert local food buyers from schools, a food distributor, and restaurant who will offer insight on key points, getting started buying and selling local foods. Panelists include Mr. Gerald Barker and Mr. Todd Fowler, food service directors for Geneva School District and Bloomfield/Canandaigua School Districts, respectively, as well as members of Headwater Food Hub and the New York Wine & Culinary Center. Panelists will share their experiences and expectations purchasing local food with attendees with time for questions and rich discussion. Light refreshments and networking will follow the panel talk, giving attendees the opportunity to meet local food buyers and sellers from across the Finger Lakes.
Market Connections: Selling and Buying Local Food will be held on location with event partner, the New York Wine & Culinary Center at 800 S Main Street, Canandaigua, NY from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm on January 10, 2018. There is a cost of $10 per farm or organization attending. Please register in advance online at https://reg.cce.cornell.edu/
