ATHENS, Ga. — According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service in Georgia, there were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending Sunday, August 15, 2021. Precipitation ranged from 0.06 inches of rain to 4.03 inches. Average high temperatures ranged from mid 80s to the mid 90s. Average low temperatures ranged from the mid 60s to the mid 70s.
Crops
Crop conditions continued to be in good condition throughout the state as scattered showers persisted. Corn harvest ramped up as the weather allowed, further motivated by the growing threat to the crop from Tropical Storm Fred. Peanuts were reported to be looking good, although disease pressure continued to mount with additional rainfall expected. A majority of cotton bolls have now been set, and more bolls were beginning to open.
Soybeans blooming neared completion and many of the plants have started to set pods.
Livestock and Pastures
Livestock and pastures continued to be generally in good condition throughout the state.
