WELLSVILLE, N.Y. — The Master Gardeners of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Allegany County invite you to attend an evening gardening program open to the public. The program will cover the following vegetables: Potatoes, Peppers, Eggplants in Containers, and Onions. Spend an evening with the Master Gardeners and take home some great gardening information. Topics will cover:

SOILS and GROWING ONIONS –  MG  Mary Lu Wells will  discuss soil health, which is critical to growing healthy, delicious vegetables. She will discuss how to grow onions from seeds – starting them indoors and transplanting outside. Do you understand the difference between long-day, short-day, and day neutral onions? Mary Lu will explain it all.

POTATOES – MG Joyce Ziembo will talk you through how to grow potatoes in your own garden. Never understood the hilling process? Joyce will explain this process as well as discuss pests and diseases of potatoes.

PEPPERS – MG Barb Ward will discuss how to grow large, delicious, green peppers. How do you get your peppers to become red, orange, or yellow? Barb will explain the process. What does a warm season plant mean and how does this effect how you plant it?

EGG PLANTS in containers – Master Gardener Deb Bigelow will discuss the varieties of eggplant available and why in our area you might want to start growing your eggplants in containers.
