PITTSTOWN AND MILLVILLE, N.J. — The Rutgers On Farm Food Safety Team is continuing its Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training and Third Party Audit Training by offering two trainings in 2017. The programs are for fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in produce safety, good agricultural practices, third party audits and the Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule.
The first is being held on Nov. 29 and 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rutgers Snyder Research Farm, 140 Locust Grove Road, Pittstown, N.J. The second training is being held on Dec. 13 and 14 at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cumberland County, 291 Morton Avenue, Millville, NJ 08332.
The first day will cover a range of topics for growers from an introduction to produce safety to how to develop a farm food safety plan. The second optional day will cover the differences between FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirements and third party audits, how to develop risk assessments, writing standard operating procedures and will answer third party audit specific questions.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion for participation in training. This certificate is proof of participation in the FSMA Produce Safety Rule required training for qualified farms and also serves as proof of educational training required annually for farms complying with a third party audit.
