WATERTOWN, N.Y. — You’re at work all day, you come home exhausted, and hungry, but you’re too tired to even decide what to make for dinner. Sound familiar? Chances are, if you haven’t planned ahead, it’s going to be something processed from a box or a drive-thru. We know these foods aren’t good for us. They make us fat and tired and set a bad example for our kids. What’s worse, they’re setting us up for serious health complications down the road. But who has the time? Field Goods, a New York State subscription delivery service, thinks they may have the solution-fresh food, sourced from local farmers, delivered right to your worksite. Find out how your workplace can take advantage of this service at a discount on May 16th from 12-2 at Cornell Cooperative Extension.
“We have tried dozens of wellness programs and none have come close to the popularity and impact of Field Goods, particularly on our culture. We actually have people talking excitedly about vegetables in the hallways.” –Carol Gordon, Director of Benefits at FujiFilm
The Adopting Healthy Habits Community Coalition is hosting a series of worksite wellness workshops for local businesses and organizations. This latest workshop, in partnership with the North Star Food Hub, is a recent addition aimed at employers and employees looking to provide better access to healthy, locally sourced ingredients to encourage better eating habits. At this workshop, participants will learn more about the mission of the newly created Food Hub and its recent efforts to grow the local food economy for small farmers and meet the demand of consumers looking to shrink their food footprint. They’ll also hear from Field Goods, a business based out of the capital region that is expanding its reach into the North Country. Field Goods is a year-round delivery and wellness service that sources produce and artisan foods from small local farms and delivers weekly to area worksites. With this new partnership with the North Star Food Hub, employees that enroll will be able to receive shares at a subsidized rate featuring foods from a variety of local farmers. There are several fruit and vegetable bag sizes to accommodate all households and shares also come with a newsletter featuring tips and recipes. According to a study completed by The Nutritional Department of The Sage Colleges, “Field Goods: Improves the quality of employees’ diet (especially for families with children), increases consumption and variety of fruits and vegetables, and reduces spending on groceries.”
This free workshop also includes a delicious healthy lunch featuring ingredients from some of the farms that will be available through this service.
