POMPEY, N.Y. — More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined, according to the American Cancer Society. One in five will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. Fortunately, skin cancers are usually visible and, if caught early enough, most types are curable.
Members of the farm community in New York will have the chance to get their skin checked at no cost on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 3 and 4, at Empire Farm Days in Pompey, NY. The New York Center for Agricultural Medicine & Health (NYCAMH) will again be bringing its air-conditioned mobile health clinic to the event so that it can offer free skin exams two out of the three days of the event.
The exam, conducted by a certified nurse practitioner who specializes in dermatology, takes about 15 minutes.
Appointments are not being scheduled in advance. Simply come to NYCAMH’S informational booth. If a person is being seen or others are in the queue, a time will be arranged for you to come back for your exam.
NYCAMH will also be offering at Empire Farm Days:
- PPE sales—a wide selection of personal protective equipment at reasonable prices. Find respirators, protective glasses, hearing protection, PTO replacement shields. Any product can be shipped directly to your farm.
- Interactive tick display—NYCAMH’s resident tick expert will be on hand to answer your tick questions!
