ORISKANY, N.Y. — Free Hugs Project founder, Ken E. Nwadkie, Jr, will be live outdoors under the big tent on Thursday July 22nd at CCE Oneida County, 121 Second St. Oriskany. Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) is excited to bring Ken to Oneida County! CCE Executive Director, Mary Beth McEwen states “The mission and philosophy of Cornell Cooperative Extension Oneida County is to bring research based knowledge to our community and work towards the economic frutifulness, ecological sustainability, and social well-being of all. We recognize that without peace, all of these goals are impossible to achieve. CCE is thrilled to host Ken and support the empowerment of our community through his message of peace.”
Peace activist, motivational speaker, and video journalist, Ken is known as the “Free Hugs Guy” online. His goal is to motivate people to spread love, inspire change and raise awareness of social issues. Ken launched the Free Hugs Project in 2014 in response to the Boston Marathon bombing. It gained popularity in 2016 as Ken made major news headlines for his peace-keeping efforts and de-escalating violence during protests, riots, and political ralliues. Ken was featured in Google’s 2016 Year in Search video as a highlight of some of the years’ most defining moments. He has made appearences on news programs and radio broadcasts worldwide. Ken’s ‘Free Hugs’ videos have been viewed by hundreds of millions on Facebook and Youtube.
Register today to be a part of this free event. The Cornell Cooperative Extension grounds open at 4:30pm with food trucks and a hoffman hotdog stand available for dinner. Grab a bite and walk through our beautiful Parker F. Scripture Botanical Gardens. Those attending can also visit CCE program booths and sign up for door prizes. The program begins at 6pm. Seating is available for 400 people, but you must register for each person coming to get your tickets. Please bring proof of registration via printed out document or photograph on phone. CCE is handicapped accessible.
