MADISON, Wis. — Raising heifers has become increasingly expensive in recent years, tightening margins across Wisconsin’s dairy industry. Tracking and understanding these costs and comparing them with peers is essential for informed management decisions. To support producers, the University of Wisconsin–Madison Extension Dairy Program is launching a new outreach effort to help farms accurately determine the cost of raising replacement animals.
Dairy Program Educators will be providing a free financial analysis to interested dairy farmers across Wisconsin and bordering states. Interested farmers can contact the UW-Madison Extension Dairy Program to schedule an on-farm meeting with a dairy educator or outreach specialist.
To connect with a Dairy Team educator, visit https://go.wisc.edu/dairysurvey26 ↗️ and complete the form. A UW-Madison Extension Dairy Team member will reach out to schedule a time that works best for you to fill out the survey.
All information will be kept confidential, and only aggregated summaries will be reported. No data will be linked to any email address or any other identifiers.
More about the survey
It has been more than 10 years since the last heifer-raising survey was conducted by what is now the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Division of Extension, making producer participation especially important to ensure current data accurately reflect today’s management practices and economic realities.
