COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — Join us during your lunch break to learn about various issues in the horse world.
On May 23 from noon to 1 p.m., Equine Extension Educator Donna Foulk will discuss equine parasite control. Small strongyle resistance to dewormers is real and it is in Pennsylvania. Donna developed a project to look at which products work on Pennsylvania horse farms and worked with farm owners to use the newest veterinary recommendations for deworming based on fecal egg counts. During this webinar, Donna will explain what she discovered and how horse farm owners can use the fecal egg count protocol on their farms. To register for the webinar, go to https://extension.psu.edu/managing-equine-parasite-resistance-the-new-protocol.
On June 21 from noon to 1 p.m., Equine Extension Educator Laura Kenny will talk about composting manure and bedding on horse farms. Composting is more than just letting a pile of manure sit for a year. It is a managed process with real benefits including reduced pile volume, odors, pathogens, and weed seeds. Laura will discuss how the process works, what is needed, and how to make it work on your farm. To register for the webinar, go to https://extension.psu.edu/composting-on-horse-farms-why-and-how.
The webinars are free, but registration is required. You can register ahead of time and receive a reminder on the day of the webinar. It is recommended to log on 10-15 minutes early to resolve any technical difficulties before the program starts.
