FRANKLIN, Vt. — Tim and Martha Magnant will host a free field day at their dairy farm in Franklin on Aug. 14 for farmers to hear about the latest research and practical applications regarding conservation tillage and other crop management practices.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Bridgeman View Farm (4826 Hanna Rd.). Registrations will be accepted until Aug. 12 at https://2019summerfarmmeeting.eventbrite.com. Lunch will be provided at no charge for all registered participants. Water quality and custom applicator credits will be available.
The field day is co-sponsored by the University of Vermont Extension (UVM) Northwest Crops and Soils Program, Friends of Northern Lake Champlain, the Farmer’s Watershed Alliance of Franklin and Grand Isle Counties and Agrilab Technologies in Enosburg Falls. All four organizations will provide updates on their research and latest projects.
Farmers will hear about UVM Extension’s whole farm feed quality and tile drainage projects and get an update on the Vermont Phosphorus Innovation Challenge. Other topics to be covered include herbicides, winter kill and management practices for manure systems, weeds and pests.
The program will conclude with a view and discussion of tillage and manure injector equipment and a chance to observe the Magnants’ innovative conservation tillage practices including reduced tillage, no-till corn and interseeded cover crops.
