ST. CLOUD, Minn. — For 2019 The Minnesota Fruit and Vegetable Growers and Minnesota Farmers Association have joined efforts for one Conference. This move will benefit all commercial fruit, vegetable growers and Farmers Market People. Those who are well established, new growers and those thinking about commercial horticultural production and Farmers Marketing. In addition to over 70 outstanding educational opportunities, a variety of vendors will showcase their products and services in all aspects of production and marketing at the Trade Show. This conference is the educational highlight of the year for commercial fruit and vegetable producers and Farmers Market People in the Upper Midwest. No matter what organization you belong to, once you get into the conference you will have the choice to attend any sessions you want.
Highlights of some sessions Include:
- Paul Douglas will Keynote the conference with the topic “A Rapidly Changing Climate: Threat- or Opportunity”. If you have ever heard about weather in Minnesota, you probably have heard of Paul Douglas
- Renae Moran from University of Maine will talk about latest research with Apples, Plums and Tree Fruit Production.
- Marketing to the Millennium, and several other marketing sessions.
- Jed Colquhoun, University of Wisconsin will present “Season Long weed Control in Strawberry Production. Many other session on strawberries and other berries
- Several session on research and control of SWD
- Several session on Biological Controls in Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Peppers and other crops.
- Several sessions for organic production
- Hemp production, Asparagus production, Garlic production
- Flower production.
- High tunnel production.
- And more! Area growers, University of Minnesota Extension specialists, and other regional experts will be presenting many sessions in addition to those listed above as well.
Pre-Conference Workshops will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2019 at the St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center. Be sure to look over the conference agenda and registration forms as start and end times differ among sessions. There are three sessions for the preconference workshops:
- Farm Safety Modernization Act
- Beginning grower Berry Workshop, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blueberries
- Private pesticide training for fruit and vegetable production for license renewal or general information.
