ELIZABETH, Ill. — The University of Illinois Extension and the National Wild Turkey Federation are offering a two workshops to address forest and grassland edge management issues that area landowners may have. Managing Forest Understory and Edges: Guide to Meeting Your Goals will be held January 18, 2019 at the Elizabeth Community Building, HWY 20 W Elizabeth, IL.
Topics to be addressed will include invasive plant species identification and management, forest and grassland edges management, prescribed burning as a tool, and information about resources available to help decision makers. Presenters include Chris Evans, U of I Extension Forestry Specialist, and Ryan Harr, from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Managing forest and grasslands for production and wildlife requires planning and effort. The workshop will feature two distinct parts. The morning session “Understanding the Issues and Setting Goals will be held from 9:00 am to 11:30 am and will focus on helping individuals understand what needs to be managed and setting management goals. The afternoon session “Taking Actions to Meet Your Goals” will be held from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm and will focus on implementation techniques for meeting landowners’ forest and grassland goals.
Interested individuals may attend one or both sessions of this informative workshop. The fee is $10 for one session or $15 for the full day. Lunch is not included. There will be a $10 fee for a single session and a $15 fee to attend both sessions.
