BUFFALO, N.Y. — On behalf of the Food Policy Council of Buffalo and Erie County (FPC), we are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for open seats on the Council. The open application period will close Friday, January 11th, 2019.
Background
The FPC was created in May 2013 as a sub-commission of the Erie County Board of Health. Our mission is to build and strengthen a sustainable and just regional food system through policy recommendations, awareness and education. Under Erie County’s Board of Health, the FPC also serves as an advisory body to provide local governments, businesses and residents’ information and advice about various policies and programs that support a local community-based food system. The Council is comprised of a hybrid of appointed and stakeholder seats. For further information on our Council composition, please see our operating principles, which can be found on our website, http://www2.erie.gov/fpc/.
Member Expectations
The Council currently meets semi-monthly, typically after standard working hours. All members are expected to attend meetings, barring an unavoidable conflict. New members will be expected to attend the next meeting of the full council on January 30, 2019 from 4pm – 6pm at the Innovation Center 640 Ellicott Street Buffalo, NY 14203. In addition, we require council members to serve on a working group of their choosing, which typically meet outside of standard council meetings, at the discretion of the working group. We will expect new members to attend an orientation before becoming an active, voting member of the Council. There will also be opportunities to attend training and development sessions for board members as well as opportunities to represent the FPC at relevant events in the community
