LEWES, Del. — This Saturday November 9, and next Saturdays November 16 and 23, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market will conduct a food drive for the benefit of Casa San Francisco located in Milton, DE.
Casa San Francisco offers an emergency shelter providing housing and three daily meals forĀ up to 12 adults for a maximum of 30 days, a food cooperative helping families and individuals stretch their limited incomes by providing a supplemental bag of groceries once every month, and an Emergency Food Pantry stocked with donated food for persons who are in crisis and cannot buy food.
The Market continues to “glean” (gather donated food from our vendors) to give to Casa San Francisco, and customers can help with this.Ā At these last three markets, customers can purchase something fresh from a vendor and bring it to the HLFM table at the market to donate to the food bank.Ā And these are the specific non-perishable items that folks can bring to the market.Ā The food bank has requested: spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jams and jellies, canned fruits/vegetables/soups,Ā boxed cereal, powdered or shelf stable milk, rice, and beans. Please honor the HLFMās mission and the health needs of folk who use the food bank by providing healthy foods. These items may also be brought to the HLFM Table at the Market.
The Fall Market is located at the Richard Shields Elementary School parking lot just off the corner of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive in Lewes, Delaware, and is open Saturdays from 9Ā am tilĀ noon throughĀ November 23 (SaturdayĀ before Thanksgiving). Ā Convenient parking can be found at the adjacent Lewes School parking lot.
Farmers/producers will be offering all the bounties of a fall harvest: carrots, sweet potatoes, garlic, collard greens, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, beets, radishes, winter squashes, lettuces, apples, mushrooms, peppers, onions, fennel, oysters, cider, chicken, pork, eggs, Ā jams and jellies, milk, yogurt, baked goods, fresh cut flowers for the table and fall-flavored wreaths for the door.
The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market.
The Market is open this Saturday from 9 am to noon. Thereās lots of parking at the Lewes School Parking lot, just off the corner of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive, directly across from the Market.
Customers who want to know what is happening at the Market each Saturday should subscribe to the HLFM newsletter sent to customers on Thursdays. Newsletter is free. To be included, customers may send their email address toĀ info@historiclewesfarmersmarket.org.
Consistent with its mission, the HLFM is committed to supporting farmers who grow local fruits and vegetables — a ārealā farmers market that is producer-only.
